Anointing of the Sick does not have to be done only in danger of death; you can be anointed when dealing with any serious illness or surgery.
Important: if you are having a major surgery or a hospital visit the following week, please ask for an Anointing of the Sick at the weekend Mass. You will be in the prayers of the whole faith community. In the event of a serious illness, please contact the parish office at 432-397-2300, or contact us here. Arrangements may also be made to bring Holy Communion to the sick and home bound. This is a sacrament for all those who are seriously ill, not just for those who are at the point of death. Hence as soon as any of the faithful begin to be in danger of death from sickness or the weakness of advanced age, the fitting time to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived.” – CCC, no.15145, citing SC, no. 73
